What the Gauteng E-Toll Review Panel recommended
Gauteng premier David Makhura has gone on record as saying he believed that elements of the Gauteng e-toll system needed to be reviewed. The elements he was referring to related to the affordability, sustainability and problems with administering the system. So he appointed a review panel and last week he released its findings. While many protesters had hoped for the system to be scrapped, that’s not what the panel recommended. Instead, it recommended simplifying the system. It also recommended a few extra sources of revenue for funding the hugely expensive Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP).
